SEL Activity: Step Into Your Courage Zone

Are you looking for easy-to-implement social-emotional activities for your classroom? These SEL Activities may be small in size but deliver a significant impact.

Activity: Students explore how having courage means different things to different people. They read and discuss a book about courage and examine experiences to decide where those moments fall in their courage zone. At the end of the lesson, students can step into their courage zone to try something new or attempt something hard for them in the past.

SEL Core Competencies: Self-awareness, Self-management, Perspective-taking 

Grades: 4-5

Time: 15 minutes

Essential Questions: Why do different people have different comfort and courage zones? What are two things you could do to step into your courage zone?

Student Action: Students try something new they’ve never done before or attempt something hard for them in the past.
