Activity: In this activity, students draw on their own experiences of inclusion and exclusion—and a read-aloud that explores both—to create a short story or cartoon that teaches younger kids about belonging and empathy.

Essential Questions: What does it feel like to be included? What does it feel like to be excluded? How can we help others feel included? How can stories influence the way people treat and understand others?
Student Action: Students notice moments when someone might feel left out—and look for a way to include them. They might invite someone new to sit with them at lunch, include someone at recess, strike up a conversation on the bus, or partner with a different classmate during group work.
